Quick answers to the most common questions about TheFlightWall.

TheFlightWall connects to your WiFi and displays live aircraft data of commercial aircraft, private jets, general aviation, helicopters, and more.

Flight Tracking Mode
Track a specific aircraft by entering a flight number, callsign, or tail number. Tracked flights show departure/arrival times, progress percentage, and the closest city or ocean the aircraft is flying over.

Area Tracking Mode
Select a location on the map and FlightWall displays all aircraft in that area. Set a custom radius around your home or draw precise shapes or polygons (e.g. focusing on a single runway). Maximum area: 1000km² (386.1mi²).

Once connected, FlightWall automatically updates in real time.

FlightWall only works on 2.4 GHz WiFi (standard home WiFi). If you only have 5 GHz, contact your network provider and ask them to split off a 2.4 GHz connection — this is fairly typical for most routers. A mobile hotspot also works great.

No, unfortunately there is no Ethernet port. FlightWall connects via 2.4 GHz WiFi only.

This mainly affects eero Mesh WiFi routers. Try these steps in order:

  1. Test with a mobile hotspot first to confirm the device can connect.
  2. Disable Local DNS Caching: eero App → Settings → Network Settings → Local DNS Caching → Off
  3. Set custom DNS — Primary: 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 · Secondary: 8.8.4.4 or 1.0.0.1
  4. If you have eero Secure, whitelist theflightwall.com, cdn.theflightwall.com, and api.theflightwall.com (screenshots here). Check the FlightWall device isn't paused or blocked.
  5. Create a Guest Network — this usually resolves all remaining issues.

Try restarting the device and following the setup process again — sometimes the WiFi chip doesn't detect all nearby networks. If that doesn't work, enter the WiFi name manually in the app.

No. Once your FlightWall is connected to WiFi, you can change all settings from any WiFi network or on cellular data.

Yes. Download TheFlightWall App and scan the QR code shown during setup (accessible by unplugging and replugging the device), or connect manually using the device ID and password. All connected users can view and control it from any network.

Three dots appear when there are no flights in your current radius matching your filter settings. Make sure the area is large enough and that you haven't applied too many constraining parameters.

Try scanning in low light from at least 4–5 feet away. If that doesn't work, connect manually in the app using the device ID and password.

Go into your phone's device settings (not the FlightWall app) and manually connect to the FlightWall network. Then return to the app — it should detect the connection and proceed automatically.

Go into your device settings, forget the FlightWall network, then try to reconnect from scratch.

Alt — Altitude  ·  Spd — Speed  ·  Trk — Degrees from North  ·  Vr — Vertical Rate (Up or Down)

Both the Mini and WideScreen display up to 5 flights at a time. A message is shown on screen if there are too many flights to display.

In TheFlightWall App, open your display → Layout tab → set Layout Template to Layout Template - Default → scroll down, enter your anchor airport → save your changes.

This depends on your setup. If you have a view, draw a shape on the map as close as possible to what you can see on a clear day — this may take some trial and error. Otherwise, set a radius around your location with an altitude filter near an airport to capture departures and arrivals.

Search filters allow you to refine results by altitude, aircraft type, and area.

The app units and display units are controlled separately. In TheFlightWall App:

  1. Open your device → Display Layout tab
  2. Ensure Layout Template is set to Technical or No Logo
  3. Go to Edit Layout Settings
  4. Set Display Units to metric or imperial
  5. Save and allow the display a moment to refresh

The units setting in the app itself only affects what you see in the mobile app.

We've built relationships with a handful of data partners to provide global flight information updated every 10 seconds.

No — for the foreseeable future all data costs are included in the product price. We may add new features or switch to a low-cost subscription depending on external circumstances.

The app collects device identifiers (e.g. serial number, IP address) and approximate location data, but does not collect names, email addresses, or other direct personal identifiers. Please refer to our privacy policy.

Please reach out via the contact page or submit an issue report directly in the app. We are eager to improve data accuracy for all FlightWall users.
