FAQ

General Information

How does FlightWall work?
TheFlightWall connects to your WiFi and displays live aircraft data of commercial aircraft, private jets, general aviation, helicopters, and more.
You can use FlightWall in two simple tracking modes:
Flight Tracking Mode
Track a specific aircraft by entering a flight number, callsign, or tail number. Tracked flights will show departure/arrival times and progress percentage (if the flight has a published route), and the closest city or ocean the aircraft is flying over.
Area Tracking Mode
Want to watch everything flying nearby? Select a location on the map and FlightWall will display all aircraft in that area.
You can:
- Set a custom radius around your home
- Create precise shapes or polygons (for example, focusing on a single runway)
The maximum area you can set is 800km² (308.88mi²). This makes it easy to monitor your local airspace exactly the way you want.
Once connected, FlightWall automatically updates in real time, turning your display into a live window into the skies.
What size is each FlightWall product?
- FlightWall - Mini is 320mm wide x 160mm tall
- FlightWall - WideScreen is 1280mm wide x 320mm tall
What is the weight and dimensions of the FlightWall package?
- When shipped the FlightWall - Mini box containing product is 3 pounds and is 18 inches (L) x 9 inches (W) x 2.5 inches (H)
- The FlightWall - Widescreen box containing product is 19.5 pounds and is 55 inches (L) x 16 inches (W) x 3.5 inches (H)

Where can FlightWall currently ship to and will it work near me?
Unfortunately we currently only sell to the US due to electronics regulations but are getting ready to sell in Europe, UK, and Australia starting around early April 2026, then other countries shortly after depending on demand.
The data for our product is global however unfortunately our data isn’t fully comprehensive in the Middle East, Africa, Russia, China, and a few other regions.

Setup and Connecting to WiFi

What kind of WiFi network works best (2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz)?
Unfortunately the device only works on 2.4 GHz WiFi (standard home WiFi). If you only have 5 GHz contact your network provider and ask if they can spit off a 2.4 GHz connection, this is fairly typical for WiFi networks.
Can the display be connected via Ethernet or wired network instead of WiFi?
No, unfortunately there is no Ethernet port.
Trouble connecting to WiFi? "Network Check Failed" issue
The device can have difficulty connecting to some routers, so you may have seen the "Network check failed" error on screen.
From what we've seen, this mainly affects eero Mesh WiFi routers. If that's what you have, please follow the troubleshooting steps below. If you have a different router, please follow similar steps according to your routers settings.
1. Try connecting to a mobile hotspot (optional but a good test)
- Turn on a mobile hotspot on your phone and connect the display to that.
- This will allow you to test the device can connect and download the latest firmware updates.
2. Disable Local DNS Caching:
- Eero App → Settings → Network Settings → Local DNS Caching → Off
3. Set Custom DNS (Google or Cloudflare):
- Eero App → Settings → Network Settings → DNS → Custom DNS
- Primary: 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1
- Secondary: 8.8.4.4 or 1.0.0.1
4. If you have Eero Secure:
- Add theflightwall.com, cdn.theflightwall.com, and api.theflightwall.com to the Allowed Sites list (see here for screenshots)
- Check that the FlightWall device isn't paused or blocked
5. Create a Guest Network
- On the EERO this seems to get around all of the network check issues.
If you've tried all those and it still doesn't work, please reach out to us at contact@theflightwall.com
What steps do I follow if the app cannot find my display on the network?
Try restarting the device and following the setup process again, sometimes the WiFi chip doesn’t see all the networks in the area. If that doesn’t work, enter the WiFi name manually.
Do I need to keep my mobile device on the same WiFi as the FlightWall?
Nope, after your FlightWall is connected to WiFi you can change settings from any WiFi network or on cellular.

Settings and Configuration

What are each of the metrics on my FlightWall?
- Alt: Altitude
- Spd: Speed
- Trk: Degrees from North
- Vr: Vertical Rate (Up or Down)
Does the flightwall have a limitation to how many flights it can display at one time?
Both the FlightWall - Mini and FlightWall - Widescreen only display 5 flights at a time. A message is shown on screen if there’s too many flights and not enough time to show them all.
How do I see the arrivals and departures of a specific / home airport on my FlightWall?
To see the arrivals and departures of a specific / home airport go into TheFlightWall App, click on the display that you want this setting on. Under the ‘Layout’ tab, make sure your Layout is set to ‘Layout Template - Default’, scroll down and enter your anchor airport, and remember to save your changes.
What is the best way to define the flight area during setup?
This fully depends on your setup! If you have a view we recommend drawing a shape on the map as close as possible to what you can see on a clear day. This might take some trial and error. Otherwise setting a radius around your location with an altitude filter near an airport is a good way to capture departures and arrivals.
What criteria can I use to filter my search results?
Our search filters allow you to refine your results by altitude, aircraft type, and area.

Data

Where does the aircraft data come from and how often is it updated?
We’ve built relationships with a handful of data partners to provide global flight information updated every 10 seconds.
Will I need to pay a subscription for the data?
No, for the foreseeable future all data costs are included in the product price. However we may add new features and/or switch to a low-cost subscription depending on external circumstances.
Is any personal or identifying data collected by the app?
The app collects device identifiers (e.g., serial number, IP address) and approximate location data, but does not collect names, email addresses or other direct personal identifiers. Please refer to our privacy policy.
What do I do if the data seems incorrect or incomplete (missing aircraft, wrong altitude)?
Please reach out to let us know or submit an issue report in the app. We are eager to improve the data accuracy for all FlightWall users.
